Yesterday's Gone

I was listening to a discussion on the radio earlier about whether or not the Afrikaans portion of our National anthem be removed.

I listened to the arguments from both sides.

One version was that the old anthem reminds us of apartheid and all of its atrocities and should be omitted. Another valid response was that the new anthem is synonymous with the new governance and all of its flaws and atrocities. Then it was suggested that perhaps we should create an entirely new anthem.

Besides the precious waste of time whilst high profile earners have tea dates to discuss the unimportant trivia such as this, we skirt about the symptoms but evade the cause. It is pretty evident to me that there is a deep wound that needs to surface so the light can enter it and it can heal.

FORGIVENESS….

You see the root cause of all this debate is unforgiveness

You cannot have reconciliation and forgiveness and then continue to look back into the past. There is no “I forgive you, BUT I will never forget.” You cannot forgive if you continually want to remind everyone about the past and judge their behaviour as utterly unacceptable. The fact that South Africa is where it is today, is testimony to the fact that we are no longer as we were in the past. We have all moved on. Much has happened. We are ALL survivors. Now, we need to live for today.

If we are continually reminded of the sadness, the suffering and the wrongness, we won’t be able to thrive. For each step we advance forward, we take one backwards, when we wallow in the past. With one foot in the past and one in the present, we are not able to live abundantly, fearlessly or free.

We know where we have come from, and we did see and do things differently back then, because we didn’t have the consciousness we have right now. What we need to do is embrace all our knowingness and consciousness and invest that constructively in creating a successful and sustainable new world. We need to take confident strides forward and not step back into the dog pooh behind us.

We should each take a large piece of paper and write down all the terrible things we did in the past and then crumple up the piece of paper and burn it. We need to set ourselves free of the debt, the bitterness and resentments and sprinkle them like ashes to the wind.

Yesterday’s gone. We are a new generation. Let’s celebrate what we have and use our talents to gift the world. Let’s arm ourselves with positivity and potential and let’s step into our power.

Don’t look back. LOOK FORWARD!

Have a great week
Love
